Hi Philip
As discussed briefly with you on the phone yesterday , please share the very sad news of the death of Mrs Swarna Premaratne ( Samarasinghe )..
Swarna had died peacefully at her residence at Schofield Gardens, Colombo in October only witnessed by her house keeper.
Swarna had no surviving family as her husband had died few months previously. She had been working as Municipalty doctor at CMC.
A private funeral service had been conducted by her close relatives. Weda( M.P. Wedisingha in Kandy ) had been told by a friend of his who shared this sad news initially with us.
Wedi & Piyaseeli had visited her in Feb 2013.
Philip, you may remember Swarna along with few of us who attended the inaugural COMSAA in September 2012 at Bentota. ( Vipula, Wedi and Piyaseeli, Colvin, myself and few others). You very kindly took few photos on that occasion with a special photograph to include the 1960 batch mates who attended this event.
Wedi, Piyaseeli and I travelled in the coach from Colombo medical faculty to Bentota and return on that day.as usual we did crack few jokes recollecting our medical school days.
Swarna was a very quiet but a very friendly batch mate who joined many of our batch events held in Sri Lanka .
Please share this Sad news even though it is belated.
Other batch mates may know more of her qualities.
May we all offer our deepest sympathies even belated to all her surviving family.
May she attain the everlasting bliss of nibbhana .
Best wishes
Nana

And how long have you been drinking?
Man:
About 20 years, I suppose
Woman:
So a beer costs £4 and you have 3 beers a day which puts your spending each month at £370. In one year, it would be approximately £4,500 …correct?
Man:
Correct
Woman:
If in 1 year you spend £4,500, not accounting for inflation, the past 20 years puts your spending at £90,000, correct?
Man:
Correct
Woman:
Do you realise that if you didn’t drink so much beer, that money could have been put in a step-up interest savings account and after accounting for compound interest for the past 20 years, you could have now bought a Ferrari?

Mary’s Boy Child Jesus Christ
Boney M
http://youtu.be/6QskYr5xpNs
"Mary's Boy Child"
is a 1956 Christmas song, written by Jester Hairston. It is widely performed as a Christmas carol.
The song
had its genesis when Hairston was sharing a room with a friend. The friend
asked him to write a song for a birthday party.[1] Hairston
wrote the song with a calypso rhythm
because the people at the party would be mainly West Indians. The song's original title was He Pone and Chocolate Tea, pone
being a type ofcorn bread.[1] It
was never recorded in this form.
Some time
later Walter Schumann, at the time conducting
Schumann's Hollywood Choir, asked Hairston to write a new Christmas song for
his choir. Hairston remembered the calypso rhythm from his old song and wrote
new lyrics for it.[1]
Harry Belafonte heard the song being performed by the
choir and sought permission to record it.[1] It
was recorded in 1956 for his album An Evening with
Belafonte. An edited version was subsequently released as a
single,[2] reaching
#1 on the UK charts
in 1957. In 1962 the full-length version was added to a reissue of Belafonte's
previously released album To Wish You a
Merry Christmas.
The song
was also recorded by Mahalia Jackson in 1956 but titled "Mary's
Little Boy Child".[3]

'The Little Drummer Boy'
‘The Little Drummer Boy’
Lyrics
"The Little Drummer Boy"
(originally known as "Carol of the Drum") is a popular Christmas song written by the American classical
music composer and teacher Katherine
Kennicott Davis in
1941.[1] It
was recorded in 1955 by the Trapp Family Singers[2] and
further popularized by a 1958 recording by the Harry Simeone Chorale. This version was
re-released successfully for several years and the song has been recorded many
times since.[3]
In the
lyrics the singer relates how, as a poor young boy, he was summoned by the Magi
to the nativity where, without a gift for the infant Jesus,
he played his drum with
the Virgin Mary's
approval, remembering "I played my best for Him" and "He smiled
at me". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Little_Drummer_Boy
