Romance

An older couple were lying in bed one night. The husband was falling asleep but the wife was in a romantic mood and wanted to talk.

She said: "You used to hold my hand when we were courting."

Wearily he reached across, held her hand for a second and tried to get back to sleep.

A few moments later she said: "Then you used to kiss me."

Mildly irritated, he reached across, gave her a peck on the cheek and settled down to sleep.

Thirty seconds later she said: "Then you used to bite my neck."

Angrily, he threw back the bed clothes and got out of bed.

"Where are you going?" she asked.

"To get my teeth!"
 he said.

> Dr. Kent Brantly, one of the two US doctors who contracted the Ebola virus in Liberia, has spoken out for the first time.
>
> He released a statement from his isolation room at Emory University in Atlanta where he’s being treated after he was flown out of Liberia last week.

> He is the first Ebola patient to receive experimental serum, ZMapp. Below is the statement Brantly released:
>
>
> “I am writing this update from my isolation room at Emory University Hospital, where the doctors and nurses are providing the very best care possible. I am growing stronger every day, and I thank God for His mercy as I have wrestled with this terrible disease. I also want to extend my deep and sincere thanks to all of you who have been praying for my recovery as well as for Nancy and for the people of Liberia and West Africa.
>
>
> “My wife Amber and I, along with our two children, did not move to Liberia for the specific purpose of fighting Ebola. We went to Liberia because we believe God called us to serve Him at ELWA Hospital.”
>
>
> “One thing I have learned is that following God often leads us to unexpected places. When Ebola spread into Liberia, my usual hospital work turned more and more toward treating the increasing number of Ebola patients. I held the hands of countless individuals as this terrible disease took their lives away from them. I witnessed the horror first-hand, and I can still remember every face and name.
>
>
> “When I started feeling ill on that Wednesday morning, I immediately isolated myself until the test confirmed my diagnosis three days later. When the result was positive, I remember a deep sense of peace that was beyond all understanding. God was reminding me of what He had taught me years ago, that He will give me everything I need to be faithful to Him.
>
>
>
> “Now it is two weeks later, and I am in a totally different setting. My focus, however, remains the same – to follow God. As you continue to pray for Nancy and me, yes, please pray for our recovery. More importantly, pray that we would be faithful to God’s call on our lives in these new circumstances.”.

Ceylon Team Summer Olympics 1948 - London.

From left: Edward Gray, Albert Perera, Duncan White, John De Saram, Mr. Perera (Team manager), George Peiris, Leslie Handunge and Alex Obeysekere.

Duncan White was 28 years old when he won the 1948 Olympic silver medal in the 400m hurdles. He was most probably past his physical prime at that time.

Would he have performed better at the 1944 Olympics when he was 24 years old? Sadly WW2 put an end to that!

Duncan White, MBE (1 March 1918 – 3 July 1998) was the first Ceylonese athlete to win a medal for his country in an Olympic event. He won a silver in the 400-metre hurdles at the 1948 Summer Olympics in London, England. He was also the only South Asian to have won an Olympic medal in track and field for more than fifty years.

White was born on 1 March 1918 in Lathpandura near Kalutara, in British Ceylon, the second of four children of John Bernard White and Cecilia Hawk White, descended from principally British lineage. He was educated at Trinity College, Kandy where he was awarded 'Trinity Lion' for athletics; this was subsequently withdrawn from him due to minor disciplinary reasons. White won his Olympic medal the same year Ceylon gained independence from Britain. He had trained for only about 3 months before the games while the gold medalist, Roy Cochran of the USA, had trained for about 4 years. White's time for the event, 51.8 seconds, was only 0.7 seconds behind Cochran, which along with Cochran's time bettered the existing Olympic record.

After the Olympic victory, White was welcomed at a ceremony at Trinity, and was honoured by returning his 'Lion'. Making a speech at the special assembly, White stated that "although my victory at the Olympics is prestigious, the 'Lion' makes me feel more honoured than that", and received the 'Lion' with open arms.

In the 1950 British Empire Games in Auckland, New Zealand, White won the 440-yard hurdles, only 0.3 seconds behind the world record. He was awarded the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 1949 but only many years later in 1988 was he honored by his Sri Lankan homeland by a postage stamp.

White was married to Angela White née Siebel and had six children: Maxine, Nita, Christopher, Daniel, Marilyn and Fiona. He had three brothers, Frederick A. White, also an athlete, Stanley Leonard White and Douglas Andrew White (died 1960). He was a Major in the Ceylon Army Volunteer Force.

The Suitcase.

email from Piyusha Atapattu

Lovely - Please read

A man died, when he realized it, he saw God coming closer with a suitcase in his hand.
God said: Alright son its time to go.
Surprised the man responded: Now? So soon? I had a lot of plans...
I'm sorry but its time to go.

What do you have in that suitcase? the man asked.
God answered: Your belongings.

My belongings? you mean my things, my clothes, my money?
God answered: Those things were not yours they belonged to the earth.

Is it my memories? the man asked.
God answered: those never belonged to you they belonged to Time

Is it my talents?
God answered: those were never yours they belonged to the circumstances.

Is it my friends and family?
God answered: I'm sorry they were never yours they belonged to the path.

Is it my wife and son?
God answered: They were never yours they belonged to your heart.

Is it my body?
God answered: that was never yours it belonged to the dust.

Is it my soul?
God answered: No that is mine.

Full of fear, the man took the suitcase from god and opened it just to find out the suitcase was empty.
With a tear coming down his cheek the man said: I never had anything??
God answered: that is correct, every moment you lived were only yours. Life is just a moment.
a moment that belongs to you. For this reason enjoy this time while you have it.
Don't let anything that you think you own stop you from doing so.

Live Now  …..Live your life

Don't forget to be happy, that is the only thing that matters.

Material things and everything else that you fought for stays here.

Best car ever built-Inventor Musk sees his dream come true!!!

Elon Reeve Musk, 43 year old South African-born physics major (Stanford) saw his childhood dream come true inventing what came to be known as the "Best Car Ever Built,"  a zero emissions electric car that is sought by thousands here today. The Model S, an all-electric plug-in car, earned a score of 99 out of a possible 100 in the Consumer magazine's tests. The score would have been higher but for the fact that the all-electric car does need to stop and recharge during extremely long-distance drives. Elon's Resume is a thing to behold-- Entrepreneur, inventor, investor, founder SpaceXPayPal,Tesla Motors Hyperloop, Zip2,Solar City etc.  His net worth is over $10 billion. --Read on  Thanks Philip

The company was co-founded by Martin Eberhard, Marc Tarpenning, JB Straubel, Ian Wright, and Musk,[47] after initial incorporation by Eberhard and Tarpenning. Musk became involved with the company in 2004, as a Series A investor.[48] Other Series A investments groups included SDL Ventures and Compass Technology Partners. Following the financial crisis in 2008,[49] Musk assumed leadership of the company as CEO and product architect, positions he still holds today. Tesla Motors first built an electric sports car, the Tesla Roadster, with sales of about 2,500 vehicles to 31 countries. Tesla began delivery of its four-door Model S sedan on 22 June 2012 and unveiled its third product, theModel X, aimed at the SUV/minivan market, on 9 February 2012. Model X is scheduled to begin production in early 2015.[50] In addition to its own cars, Tesla sells electric powertrain systems toDaimler for the Smart EVMercedes B-Class Electric Drive and Mercedes A Class and to Toyota for the RAV4 EV. Musk was able to bring in both companies as long-term investors in Tesla.[51]

Tesla : Consumer Reports' best car ever tested
The Tesla Model S is a nearly perfect car, according to Consumer Reports, with the only issue being its need to recharge which could be a problem on long-distance trips.
See what makes the Model S such a unique vehicle.
"If it could recharge in any gas station in three minutes, this car would score about 110," said Jake Fisher, head of auto testing for Consumer Reports. Fisher called the car's performance in the magazine's performance tests "off the charts."Musk has favored building a sub-$30,000 subcompact and building and selling electric vehicle powertrain components so that other automakers can produce electric vehicles at affordable prices without having to develop the products in house.[ Several mainstream publications have compared him with Henry Ford for his work on advanced vehicle powertrains. To overcome the range limitations of electric cars, Musk said in an interview with All Things D in May 2013 that Tesla is "dramatically accelerating" their network of supercharger stations, tripling the number on the East and West Coasts that June, with plans for more expansion across North America, including Canada, throughout the year.[54] He is reported to have a 32% stake in Tesla, which is valued at $18 billion, as of November 2013.[55][56] His annual salary at Tesla is one dollar, and similar to Steve Jobs and others, the remainder of his compensation is in the form of stock and performance-based bonuses
Depending on price, the Model S has driving range of between 208 and 265 miles. A full charge takes about six hours from an ordinary 240 volt outlet, according to Tesla.
The Model S has already won awards from car magazines like Motor Trend and Automobile, but Consumer Reports is widely regarded as being the most influential magazine among car shoppers. Consumer Reports, published by the non-profit group Consumer's Union, purchases all the cars it tests and does not accept paid ads.
The score of 99 means the Tesla (TSLA) Model S, a sedan that can seat as many as seven people, performed as well or better than any automobile the magazine has ever tested. The score is not unprecedented -- most recently, it was earned by the Lexus LS460 in 2009 -- but no car at any price has ever scored higher.
Prices for the Model S start at about $70,000, not including federal and state tax incentives for electric cars.

The Model S tied for the quietest vehicle the magazine has ever tested, was among the most energy-efficient and had excellent scores for acceleration, braking and ride quality.

Who Invented the E-mail?

As you're reading this post on Facebook, you must be aware that to log into Facebook you need an email account.
But have you ever wondered about the origins of email?
Email turned 32 yesterday.
But how many of us know that VA Shiva Ayyadurai, an Indian-American scientist invented Email when he was just 14.

Ayyadurai was born to a Tamil Indian Family in Bombay.
At the age of seven, he left with his family to live in the US.
In 1978, aged 14, he developed a full-scale emulation of the interoffice mail system which he called "E-mail".
It replicated all the functions of the interoffice mail system: Inbox, Outbox, Folders, Memo, Attachments, Address Book, etc.
These features are now familiar parts of every email system.

Studying at Livingston High School in New Jersey, Ayyadurai began his work on the email system for the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.
He closely observed that the desktop of each secretary, in addition to the typewriter, had an Inbox, Outbox, Drafts, Carbon Copy Paper, Folders, Address Book, Paper Clips (for attachments), etc., which they used each day to create and process incoming and outgoing mail.

Then he conceived an electronic version of this system.
He created a computer program of over 50,000 lines of code, which electronically replicated all the features of the interoffice mail system.

On August 30, 1982, the US government officially recognized Ayyadurai as the inventor of email by awarding him the first US Copyright for Email for his1978 invention.
Yet his name is nowhere in modern history of computer science.
Whoever claims the invention, Ayyadurai will remain the father of E-mail.
We hope he gets the name in history he deserves.

Your Annual Dementia Test(only 4 questions)

Email from Kamalini Kanapathippillai

Yep, it's that time of year again for us to take
our annual senior citizen test.

Exercise of the brain is as
important as exercise of the muscles. As we grow older, it's important
to keep mentally alert. If you don't use it, you lose it!

Here is a
very private way to gauge how your memory compares to your last test.

Some may think it is too easy, but the ones with memory problems may
have difficulty.

Take this test to determine if you're losing it or
not.

The spaces below are so you don't see the answers until you've
made your answer.

OK, relax, clear your mind and begin.

#1. What
do you put in a toaster?

Answer: 'bread.' If
you said 'toast', just give up now and go do something else. And, try
not to hurt yourself.

If you said, bread, go to Question #2.

# 2.
Say 'silk' five times. Now spell 'silk.' What do cows drink?

Answer: Cows drink water. If you said 'milk,' don't attempt the next
question. Your brain is already over-stressed and may even overheat.
Content yourself with reading more appropriate

literature such as
Women's Weekly or Auto World. However, if you did say 'water', proceed
toQuestion #3.

If a red house is made from red bricks, and a blue
house is made from blue bricks, and a pink house is made from pink
bricks, and a black house is made from black bricks, what is a green

house made from?

Answer: Greenhouses are made from glass.

If you said 'green bricks', why are you still reading this??? PLEASE,
go lie down!!!

But, if you said 'glass,' go on to Question
#4.

# 4. Do not use a calculator for this:

You are driving a
bus from New York City to Philadelphia.

In Staten Island, 17 people
got on the bus.

In New Brunswick, 6 people get off the bus and 9
people get on. In Windsor, 2 people get off and 4 get on.

In Trenton,
11 people get off and 16 people get on.

In Bristol, 3 people get off
and 5 people get on.

And, in Camden, 6 people get off and 3 get on.

You then arrive at Philadelphia Station.

Without going back to
review, how old is the bus driver?

Answer: Oh, for crying out
loud!!!

Don't you remember your own age?!?! It was YOU
driving the bus!!!

If you pass this along to your friends, pray

they do better than you.Only because l have a good recall memory from
other all the other times I've passed this on. I got some of them this

time.PS: 95% of people fail most of the questions!!!
