Tikiri menike embula genalla. 1960s.

Here you will see and hear Mohideen Baig, singer par excellence. From ‘Karuna Muhude..’ 1936. Asokamala songs 1946, Kele Handa, Sujatha and a huge lot to 1980s.
Born in  India migrated early. Lived down Dematagoda Rd, Maradana.
The first ever Sinhala song record (cut in 1936 or so) is ‘  Karuna Muhude Naamu gileela’ by him.
With his deep voice and range, Hindi singer were often less effective in the original songs.
Here he sings of the ‘kamatha’- goyam kapeema, the farming of the goviyas in days gone by, familiar to us oldies. And tikiri sinaha, as the damsels brought their lunch!

I selected this which is not the original, for you to see him as he was, a  gentle giant.
His son Ishaq sings on today much like the father.
