Congratulations to Karals

Hello Karals,
I am forwarding a message sent by Buddy. Even though we knew in advance that this was coming, it was still a thrill to hear the good news. My wife children and myself congratulate you on your excellent performance. It is heartening to see you bringing credit to your land of birth, your Medical Faculty, the Health Dept of SL and the University of Peradeniya, where you spent the formative years. Your collegues in the batch are indeed proud of you.
Philip.

Davidson, Toxicology and Karalliedda.

Hello Lakshman,
I was recently at the Monash University Bookshop and chanced to see the latest edition of "Davidson," still the best medical textbook around.
I was thrilled when I opened to the toxicology chapter and read that it was written by Karaliedde and Young. I looked around, hoping to find some of my pupils so that I could show them the chapter and claim relationship but alas, there was not a known person in sight.

Congratulations on your wonderful achievement. I am sure all of Sri Lanka's doctors, especially those in our batch would be proud of you.
Yours,
Buddy

Dear Suresh

I was saddened to learn of the passing away of your beloved father. Please accept my heartfelt sympathies! Like uncle kalu Nana I was at Bloem Fontaine medical hostel with him where we had a good friendship. He called me loku Makuls. Unfortunayely I lost touch after I left to UK. May he rest in peace!

'Happy' Aponsu in 1960.

Recalling memories - Kalu Nana

Dear Suresh
The detailed e mail you sent to uncle Kapuwatta was copied to me by another of our batch mates- Philip Veerasingham and I just read it.
I an not a Thomian nor am I a Josephian but proud to be an old Richmondite.
I came to know your father only when we entered the medical school. He may have told you that he was at Bloemfontein medical hostel. I was also in the same hostel with him and became very close friends since then. We had a wonderful time in the hostel and during our medical college days.
I kept in touch with him since then for many years till I left Sri Lanka. He used to visit me at various hospitals I worked in Sri lanka and came and stayed with me at Hambantota hospital when I was the DMO from 1971 to 1974. I was known as Kalu Nana ( I am not that dark anyway) amongst my batch mates.
He was a wonderful friend and was always happy true to his name.
I do not think that I had met you with your father in person.
I am in UK and still visit Sri Lanka. I sometimes use Qatar Airways for these trips.
I am very sorry to hear the very sad news of the death of your beloved father and the details of his last few days and months.
Even though he is out of sight and out of touch, he will not be out of our memories nor will he be gone out of our hearts.
Please accept our deepest condolences even though this is quite belated.
May he rest in peace.
Very best wishes
Uncle Nana

Dear Uncle,

I was glad to see the 1960 Medical Batch Pics. It also brought some wonderful memories of my Child hood, where I attended along with my Father & Mother for these get together.

I remember very well the Kandy one, and that was sort of the last time I met Uncle Motilal who was a very close friend of Thaththi's. In fact he was his best-man.

I also remember how you passed comments on my father saying that he had made the right choice by enrolling me as a Thomian rather than a Josephian. I can not forget Uncle Jeri’s skit as well.

However, times have passed, and the memories linger, well I never ended up being a Doctor, but I am in Qatar and had been out of Sri Lanka for the last 8-10 years.

Thaththi had a cologne cancer in 2007, and he was operated. This year by April he was weak and he had a slurring speech.

This prompted us to get him checked again, and he was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Dr Colvin operated on him. In fact on his 70th birthday exactly. It was a 12-hour over night operation at Navaloka.

Though he recovered from the initial OP, after about 5-6 hours, he started bleeding. They did open up again, however he did not recover after that. He was in a coma for 8 days and he was on life support right through. On the 3rd of May he passed off. Thank you so much for the publishing the obituary on the Web,

Also when I saw the pics of you on the web, I knew how much time had passed since I last saw you.

Anyway, hope some day when I come to Colombo I may bump on to you. Who knows could be even at a ROY-THO. By the way I am heading the Doha Thomians, and this year we thrashed Doha Royalists on Cricket & Rugby both. Just a bit of infor for an Old Thomian

Take care
& Gob Bless
