Reminising - Sir John Kotelawala

Sir John Kotelawala was once the Prime Minister of Ceylon. He had a brusque manner but had many endearing ways.
It was common knowledge that he was a Ladies man. He was accompanied most of the time by a coterie of females. The press labelled the members of this group 'The Purple Brigade.
Once when Sir John visited Paris. One of the journalists commented that Sir John spoke good French. He followed up by asking Sir John where he learnt his French. Pat came the reply from Sir John 'Under the blanket'.

Senarathne and better half, Avissawella, Sri Lanka.

'Sena' did his internship in Kandy and progressed to General Practice in Polonnaruwa. Went to the UK and qualified in Psychiatry. Was appointed Consultant Psychiatrist Kurunegala. He thought it was a better life in the University Peradeniya in the Medical Faculty as it was closer home. He emigrated to Australia and is still in active practice as Psychiatrist in Australia. Seeing the photo I took when he visited me in Oct 2012 he has not changed much. The same grin is still there. His better half has the ever smiling face.

Peter Gluck
During our days at the Medical Faculty, Colombo,  'Daha' as he was referred to, was rumored to have had an encounter with a diplomat from Canada. The name of the diplomat was Peter Gluck. He called at 'Daha's' office. A functionary had gone in and whispered into 'Daha's' ear, 'Sir, Galak avilla'. 'Daha' had responded 'Passe, passe. Dhang bae'. This was a story told ad nauseum at parties. Even now it brings guffaws of laughter.
You have to understand Sinhalese and the ways of politicians to appreciate this joke.
