Dr. Swineetha Gunawardena

email from our senior Dr. Susiri Weerasekera:-
Dr. Swineetha Gunawardena our batchmate passed away. The funeral was last week.;
nee Kumaranatunge she was chief anaesthetist GHC as she  retired from govt. service.
    Always with a smile, and those bright eyes, I never saw her angry, nor her husband SAW Gunda, as we called him.
I worked long years  with both of them, never any dissention borne of being anaesthetist and surgeon in close confined camps. Not even a tale, except that when  she was a student, Dr. Noel Bartholemeusz offered to adopt her. Yes.
Swineetha was the woman who kept that Colombo Anaesthetists dept working in spite of severe constraints during those war years when she had to find staff stat to solve effects of those frequent bomb blasts, 1980- 1990s.
She once did avoid a major confrontation between me and another anaesthetist without a ripple. Many such was her regular lot!
Thank you, Swineetha!
She coped, gently; hence not too many  eulogies  her way on that score.
The seas were calm, so what?
She had a handsome private practice we surgeons leaned on.
In the later years she was not keen to be visited as she had to be got ready.
She leaves a son and daughter, husband ‘SAW’ G having pre diseased her by many years.
Our loss.
May she attain Nibhana.
