I wish to share some recollections regarding Dr. Victor Benjamin, who passed away on 10th May, 2014.

He performed  great service to our community, while working in Jaffna in the late Sixties or so.
Later he worked at Kandy Hospital too as a successful Surgeon before coming over to Australia.

As a former Senior House Officer (which corresponds to a Registrar, now)  of Dr.Anthonis  in Colombo, he learnt his Surgery from him and became a successful surgeon. He also carried out many operations, following in the footsteps of his mentor. While he was a Surgeon in Jaffna, he became very popular and patients used to flock to his ward, as recalled by my brother, Dr. S. Sivaloganathan (Presently in Connecticut, USA), who worked with him at the Jaffna Hospital.

I came across much of this information through my correspondence with my brother, named above, partly as a Radiographer in Sri Lanka, and lately as a member of the Senior Citizens'  Association here.

P.S.
I was Resident Surgeon at the General Hospital Kandy when Dr.Victor Benjamin was Consultant Surgeon there in the early 1970s. He lived along with Dr. Purvey Lawrence and Dr. MH De Zoysa Surgeons and Prof. Jayaweera of the Obs and Gyn Department of the University of Peradeniya.
Dr. Benjamin was very particular about the arrangement of sentences and placement of punctuation marks. He was an excellent surgeon and I learnt many tricks from him.
May his soul rest in peace.
Philip G Veerasingam.
