House of cards - email from Piyusha Atapattu.

Don't Sneeze Or Slam The Door

Have you ever seen "a house of cards" that didn't collapse?

Well, here it is...

Bryan Berg is a professional "card stacker" who builds houses of cards on a very large scale. Trained as an architect, Bryan Berg is the only known person to make living building structures with freestanding playing cards. He uses no tape, glue, or tricks, and his method has been tested to support 660 lbs. Per square foot.

Berg has stacked cards for corporate special events, public relations campaigns, and science and children's museums in many U.S. Cities, Canada, Europe, and Asia. Berg's clients have included Walt Disney World, a Lexus commercial, Procter & Gamble, American major league baseball and hockey, and the San Francisco Opera among others. He also participated in a music video by The Bravery, playing a lonely man who builds a fantasy world out of cards.

In 2004, Guinness created a record category for World's Largest House of Freestanding Playing Cards to recognize a project Berg built for Walt Disney World, a replica of Cinderella's Castle. In 2010, the record was renewed by him using 4051 sets of cards, over 218,000 cards, and built in 44 days, a replica of the Venetian Macao

In the 1400's a law was set forth in England that a man was allowed to beat his wife with a stick no thicker than his thumb.....

Hence we have 'the rule of thumb'

----------

Many years ago in Scotland , a new game was invented.
It was ruled 'Gentlemen Only...Ladies Forbidden'.. ..
and thus, the word GOLF entered into the English language.

------------

The first couple to be shown in bed together on prime time TV was Fred and Wilma Flintstone.

------------

Coca-Cola was originally green.

It is impossible to lick your elbow.

------------

The cost of raising a medium-size dog to the age of eleven:
£ 10,120.00

------------

The first novel ever written on a typewriter,

Tom Sawyer.

------------

Each king in a deck of playing cards represents a great king from history:

Spades - King David

Hearts - Charlemagne

Clubs -Alexander, the Great

Diamonds - Julius Caesar

------------

111,111,111 x 111,111,111 = 12,345,678,987, 654,321

------------

If a statue in the park of a person on a horse has both front legs in the air, the person died in battle.
If the horse has one front leg in the air, the person died because of wounds received in battle.
If the horse has all four legs on the ground, the person died
of natural causes

Q.. If you were to spell out numbers, how far would you have to go until you would find the letter 'A'?

A. One thousand

------------

Q. What do bulletproof vests, fire escapes, windshield wipers and laser printers have in common?

A. All were invented by women.

------------

Q. What is the only food that doesn't spoil?

A. Honey

------------

In Shakespeare's time, mattresses were secured on bed frames by ropes.
When you pulled on the ropes, the mattress tightened, making the bed firmer to sleep on.
Hence the phrase... 'Goodnight, sleep tight'

------------

It was the accepted practice in Babylon 4,000 years ago that for a month after the wedding, the bride's father would supply his son-in-law with all the mead he could drink. Mead is a honey beer and because their calendar was lunar based, this period was called the honey month, which we know today as the honeymoon.

In English pubs, ale is ordered by pints and quarts....
So in old England , when customers got unruly, the bartender would yell at them 'Mind your pints and quarts, and settle down. It's where we get the phrase: 'mind your Ps and Qs'

------------

Many years ago in England , pub frequenters had a whistle baked into the rim, or handle, of their ceramic cups. When they needed a refill, they used the whistle to get some service. 'Wet your whistle' is the phrase inspired by this practice.

At least 75% of people who read this will try to lick their elbow!

Don't delete this just because it looks weird. Believe it or not,
you can read it.

DO YOU KNOW HOW THE APOSTLES DIED? email forwarded by Edwin Kirubs.

From: Sylvia_Amarasingham@URSCorp.com

When you read the Bible now it is important to remember what these people went through to bring God’s Word into your hands.
I have never seen it all in one place like this.  I found it very interesting and hope you will also.  Many blessings to you.
DO YOU KNOW HOW THE APOSTLES DIED?

1Description: cid:image001.jpg@01CA5366.84261BA0Matthew
Suffered martyrdom in Ethiopiakilled by a sword wound.
2Description: cid:image002.jpg@01CA5366.84261BA0Mark Died in Alexandria, Egypt, after being dragged by horses through the streets until he was dead.
3Description: cid:image003.jpg@01CA5366.84261BA0Luke Was hanged in Greece as a result of his tremendous preaching to the lost.

4Description: cid:image004.jpg@01CA5366.84261BA0John Faced martyrdom when he was boiled in huge basin of boiling oil during a wave of persecution in Rome...
However, he was miraculously delivered from death. John was then sentenced to the mines on the prison island of Patmos...
He wrote his prophetic Book of Revelation on Patmos. The apostle John was later freed and returned to serve as Bishop of Edessa in modern Turkey. He died as an old man, the only apostle to die peacefully.
5Description: ??kb jpg Saint Peter the Apostle holy cardPeter He was crucified upside down on an x-shaped cross.  According to church tradition it was because he told his tormentors that he felt unworthy to die in the same way that Jesus Christ had died.

6Description: ????. ????. ???????? ????????????????, ???????????? ??????????. ????????????????: goarch.orgJames
Just The leader of the church in Jerusalem, was thrown over a hundred feet down from the southeast pinnacle of the Temple when he refused to deny his faith in Christ. When they discovered that he survived the fall, his enemies beat James to death with a fuller's club.
* This was the same pinnacle where Satan had taken Jesus during the Temptation.

7Description: cid:image007.jpg@01CA5366.84261BA0James the Great Son of Zebedee was a fisherman by trade when Jesus called him to a lifetime of ministry. As a strong leader of the church, James was ultimately beheaded at Jerusalem...
The Roman officer who guarded James watched amazed as James defended his faith at his trial. Later, the officer walked beside James to the place of execution. Overcome by conviction, he declared his new faith to the judge and knelt beside James to accept beheading as a Christian
8Description: The Martyrdom of St. BartholomewBartholomew Also known as Nathaniel Was a missionary to Asia... He witnessed for our Lord in present day Turkey...
Bartholomew was martyred for his preaching in Armenia where he was flayed to death by a whip.
9Description: cid:image009.jpg@01CA5366.84261BA0Andrew Was crucified on an x-shaped cross in Patras, Greece...
After being whipped severely by seven soldiers they tied his body to the cross with cords to prolong his agony. His followers reported that, when he was led toward the cross, Andrew saluted it in these words: 'I have long desired and expected this happy hour.
The cross has been consecrated by the body of Christ hanging on it.' He continued to preach to his tormentors for two days until he expired.
10Description: cid:image010.jpg@01CA5366.84261BA0Thomas Was stabbed with a spear in India during one of his missionary trips to establish the church in the sub-continent

11Description: chap11.jpg (6025 bytes)Jude
Was killed with arrows when he refused to deny his faith in Christ.
12Description: cid:image012.jpg@01CA5366.84261BA0Matthias The apostle chosen to replace the traitor Judas Iscariot was stoned and then beheaded.

13Description: cid:image013.jpg@01CA5366.84261BA0Paul Was tortured and then beheaded by the evil Emperor Nero at Rome in A.D. 67. Paul endured a lengthy imprisonment, which allowed him to write his many epistles to the churches he had formed throughout the Roman Empire. These letters,  which taught many of the foundational doctrines of Christianity, form a large
portion of the New Testament.
Perhaps this is a reminder to us that our sufferings here are
indeed minor compared
to the intense persecution and cold cruelty faced by the apostles
disciples
during their times for the sake of the Faith. And ye shall be hated
of all men for my name's sake:
But he that endureth to the end shall be saved.
Matthew 10:22

Fable of the Porcupines - email from Queenie Veerasingam

It was the coldest winter ever.  Many animals died
because of the cold.  The porcupines, realizing the
situation, decided to group together.  This way,
they covered and protected themselves; but, the
quills of each one wounded their closest companions
even though they gave off heat to each other.

After awhile, they decided to distance themselves one
from the other and they began to die, alone and frozen.

So they had to make a choice: either accept the quills of their companions or disappear from the Earth.

Wisely, they decided to go back to being together.
This way they learned to live with the little wounds
that were caused by the close relationship with
their companion, but the most important
part of it, was the heat that came from the
others. This way they were able to survive.

Therefore:
The best relationship is not the one that brings
together perfect people, but the best is

when each individual learns to live with
the imperfections of others and can admire
the other person's good qualities.

The Moral of the story!

LEARN TO LOVE THE PRICKSIN YOUR LIFE.

Living Bridge - email forwarded by Gallege De Silva.

Very interesting & fascinating

MEHGALAYA
is a tribal kingdom in Assam .
It is jammed between Bangladesh and Bhutan .
It is near SHILLONG, the capital.
See the photos of the area under Shillong on the
internet - very beautiful.
Cheerapunji is a town near by that gets the highest
rainfall in the world!

The most successful execution / construction of

living Bridges with a life span of many centuries
in one of the most remote parts of the World.
Man making nature work for him.

I couldn't comprehend what they meant by a

living bridge until I watched this.

Quite a unique concept for folks who have limited

technical education, but seemingly have sufficient
common sense to survive. No civil engineering is
involved at all.
