Vintage photos of Ceylon - email from Sujeeva Rathnayake

Dear Phiip.
A relative of our's sent these photographs to me. I thought they may interest you. The only one that interests me is of "Jamis appu" who is supposed to have wanted to cut down the Sri Mahabodhi" in  July 1929. Have you heard of this? ? a schizophrenic with a voice telling him to cut the tree down?
Regards
Sujiva

A 'hat-trick' - email jksw

"A hat-trick or hat trick in sport is the achievement of a positive feat  three times or more during a game, or other achievements based on threes.

The term was first used in 1858 in cricket to describe HH Stephenson's feat  of taking three wickets with three consecutive deliveries. A collection was held for Stephenson, and he was presented with a hat bought with the proceeds.[1]

The term was used in print for the first time in 1878.[2] The term was eventually adopted by many other sports including association football, water polo, and team handball, but did not become popular in North America until the mid-1940s in the National Hockey League.[citation needed]?

The (typewriter) soloist is Alfredo Anaya - email from jksw

The (typewriter) soloist is Alfredo Anaya.

Many of the younger crowd-- who may see this video--won't remember the old typewriter.

You will find this rendition absolutely delightful.

This is
for all the ancients who remember what a typewriter was!
